The Śruti – The Vedas

The Śrutis, also known as the Vedas or Āmnāya, are the revealed scriptures of Hinduism. Hindus understand their religion as rooted in these revelations, which are considered apauruṣeya—not created by any human author but arising directly from divine intuition.

The Vedas stand as the timeless pride of Hindu tradition—and indeed, a treasure for all of humanity.

The word Veda comes from the Sanskrit root vid, meaning “to know.” Thus, Veda literally means knowledge. When used in the scriptural sense, it refers to the supreme book of knowledge.

The Vedas form the very foundation of Hindu sacred literature. From them spring not only the later scriptures, but also the seeds of secular and even material sciences. They are the inexhaustible storehouse of Indian wisdom—a radiant legacy that remains unforgettable through eternity.
